Almost 50pc of Hobart's short-stay accommodation used to be long-term rentals, report finds

 Tourists Isabelle Milsom and Kieran Parker did not consider staying at a hotel when they planned their trip to Hobart. 

They quickly settled on two short-stay properties so they could explore the state's south, with the first stop in Ridgeway. 

"A lot of the time we'll stay at a property out in whoop-whoop sort of thing, so Airbnb is good for that, finding people's backyard granny flats and things like that," Ms Milsom said.

The Wollongong couple said they had no trouble finding accommodation options.

Burgundy group seeks community feedback on heritage-listed Shafston House proposal

 One of Brisbane's oldest riverfront properties could have a 15-storey, 37-apartment tower and two luxury homes built alongside it. Shafston House, an 1851 Kangaroo Point heritage-listed residence with sweeping views down to the Brisbane River, was sold last year to businessman Kevin Pan's development company Burgundy Group. The nearly 10,000-square-metre site was most recently the home of Shafston International College, established by entrepreneur Keith Lloyd in 1996, who sold it to Mr Pan last year. Queensland government announces new e-scooter fines that are 'designed to hurt'

 With new speed limits for e-scooter riders in Queensland on the horizon, the government has outlined the fine structure for those doing the wrong thing. The biggest ticket will be $1,078 for using your phone while riding. Those caught speeding will face tiered fines from $143 to $575. Currently the ticket for speeding is a flat rate of $191. The ticket costs will come in with new speeding laws that limit riders to 12 kilometres per hour on footpaths and 25kph on bike paths and suburban roads.
