Queensland COVID-19 mask mandate to be relaxed when vaccination rate hits 80 per cent over 16 getting at least one dose

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced masks will no longer be required when 80 per cent of Queenslanders over 16 years of age have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The Premier said people will be able to pack away their masks "the minute" the state reaches that target.

It had been hoped a good turnout at vaccination hubs on Tuesday would be enough to get the state over the line, but figures revealed on Tuesday afternoon showed the state had fallen short, with 79.8 per cent of people over 16 now vaccinated at least once.

This means masks will remain in force in relevant Queensland council areas for at least one more day.
