Warning Queensland holiday destinations with low COVID-19 vaccination rates could miss out on tourists

 Queensland's tourism towns could be dealt a further COVID blow, with visitors potentially shying away from areas with poor vaccination rates, according to experts.

With less than four weeks to go until the borders open, Cairns, Townsville and the Gold Coast have reached the 70 per cent of those over 15 fully vaccinated mark, while Mackay and Whitsunday trail behind at 65 per cent.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk this morning congratulated several regions for making significant improvements in their vaccinate rate over the past week, but said she was still concerned about the Gold Coast.
