Eco-Friendly Relocation: Moving Home Without Harming The Environment

Image
Whether you're moving on your own or hiring seasoned removalists in Brisbane, reducing waste and protecting the environment should be your top priority. When I relocated to Brisbane, Queensland's capital, for a new job last year, I made every effort to ensure that my move did not harm the environment. To pull off such a move, I meticulously prepared everything and hired a removals firm that is also environmentally conscious. If you also want to do the same, then you need to follow some guidelines. Here is an article for you about moving home without harming the environment. Fraud risk with COVID-19 Check In Qld app is not a flaw, says minister, no new community cases recorded

Image
A function of the Check In Queensland app that allows other people's vaccination certificates to be uploaded is not a flaw, according to Minister for Digital Economy Leanne Enoch.  Concerns were raised last week that the function would allow unvaccinated people to fraudulently claim someone else's vaccination certificate as their own. Today Ms Enoch defended the app, saying such an act of fraud would be "incredibly difficult" to carry out. "That function of the app [is] to be able to ensure that you can show that your children or your partner is also vaccinated," Ms Enoch said.  Read More: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-11-28/qld-coronavirus-covid-check-in-app-fraud-no-flaw-minister/100656890

Queensland eyes infrastructure charges as Brisbane Lord Mayor says caps are too low

Image
Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner says delays to key infrastructure projects such as new parks, roads, and stormwater drains in Brisbane's booming suburbs are caused by state restrictions on how much councils can levy from developers. Cr Schrinner was speaking in council chambers last week when opposition councillors criticised his administration for shifting several infrastructure projects off the city's 10-year primary infrastructure plan and onto the "never-never" long-term infrastructure list. Logan City Council appoints Darren Scott as new CEO, two years after entire council was sacked

Image
Logan City Council has appointed a new chief executive, more than two years after the entire council was sacked during a corruption probe surrounding the dismissal of its former chief executive.  The fall-out of the 2019 sackings led to multiple court cases, with the Queensland Crime and Corruption Commission dropping fraud charges against eight former Logan councillors earlier this year. Mayor Darren Power announced the appointment of experienced public servant Darren Scott on Monday.  Read More: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-11-29/logan-city-council-appoints-darren-scott-new-ceo/100658686

ABC Radio Brisbane breakfast co-host Loretta Ryan is warning people not to trust any Facebook profile claiming to be her after her photos were stolen for a fake account used to scam listeners' personal details.  Ryan said she felt "sick to her stomach" at the idea that her personal details had potentially been used to scam listeners. Warning Queensland holiday destinations with low COVID-19 vaccination rates could miss out on tourists

Image
Queensland's tourism towns could be dealt a further COVID blow, with visitors potentially shying away from areas with poor vaccination rates, according to experts. With less than four weeks to go until the borders open, Cairns, Townsville and the Gold Coast have reached the 70 per cent of those over 15 fully vaccinated mark, while Mackay and Whitsunday trail behind at 65 per cent. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk this morning congratulated several regions for making significant improvements in their vaccinate rate over the past week, but said she was still concerned about the Gold Coast. Brisbane's western suburb residents to have their say on Walter Taylor Bridge duplication

Image
Brisbane's western suburb residents are being asked how they navigate a chronic commuter pinch-point at the Walter Taylor Bridge, between Chelmer and Indooroopilly, as the council considers duplicating the heritage bridge. The 85-year-old two-lane bridge is a constant congestion headache for drivers travelling over the Brisbane River from the city's south-western suburbs to Indooroopilly and the CBD. The council confirmed in October last year that it was in the early stages of a pre-feasibility study on the long-mooted idea of duplicating the bridge. Why COVID-19 is infiltrating Indigenous communities

Image
Each morning at 6am, Aboriginal health worker Zoe Duke starts work at the makeshift COVID testing and vaccination hub on the outskirts of Moree in north-western New South Wales.  On busy days, she and her colleagues will work 12-hour shifts.  "I just love my community and I want to keep it safe," she said. Until recently, the community had largely avoided the dreaded Delta strain as it snaked its way across the state.  Read More: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-11-16/why-covid-19-is-infiltrating-indigenous-communities/100625424

UTIs are one of the most common reasons people visit emergency departments, but it's easier to consult a GP or pharmacist

Image
Tens of thousands of Queenslanders are attending emergency departments for urinary tract infections (UTIs) each year, despite treatments being available through general practitioners or at pharmacies. Queensland Health data shows UTIs have been among the top 10 reasons why people visit the state's public hospital emergency departments for the past four years. More than 24,000 people were treated at Queensland public hospital EDs for UTIs in 2020 and that number is expected to increase this year. Burgundy group seeks community feedback on heritage-listed Shafston House proposal

Image
One of Brisbane's oldest riverfront properties could have a 15-storey, 37-apartment tower and two luxury homes built alongside it. Shafston House, an 1851 Kangaroo Point heritage-listed residence with sweeping views down to the Brisbane River, was sold last year to businessman Kevin Pan's development company Burgundy Group. The nearly 10,000-square-metre site was most recently the home of Shafston International College, established by entrepreneur Keith Lloyd in 1996, who sold it to Mr Pan last year. Queensland COVID-19 mask mandate to be relaxed when vaccination rate hits 80 per cent over 16 getting at least one dose

Image
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced masks will no longer be required when 80 per cent of Queenslanders over 16 years of age have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. The Premier said people will be able to pack away their masks "the minute" the state reaches that target.  It had been hoped a good turnout at vaccination hubs on Tuesday would be enough to get the state over the line, but figures revealed on Tuesday afternoon showed the state had fallen short, with 79.8 per cent of people over 16 now vaccinated at least once. This means masks will remain in force in relevant Queensland council areas for at least one more day. Read more: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-11-09/qld-coronavirus-covid-vaccine-masks/100600882

Severe thunderstorms, hail, heavy bursts of rain possible for SEQ

Image
South-east Queensland could cop heavy bursts of rain and hail during severe thunderstorms, as parts of the state recorded the highest rainfall totals for the month. The Bureau of Meteorology on Monday forecast that much of Queensland would see storms across the week. Meteorologist Helen Kirkup said in the south-east some thunderstorms could become severe, with heavy bursts of rain, damaging winds and hail possible. “There is also the slight chane that storms in the north-west of the state could also develop severe characteristics,” she said. “We expect these showers and thunderstorms to continue right through the week, but we might see a brief lull in this rainfall in the south-east on Monday night and Tuesday as there’s a trough moving offshore. “We have deep tropical moisture drawing across the western central and southern parts of Queensland during the middle of the week, with a rain band crossing central and southern Queensland from Wednesday to Friday.” Read more: https://www.bris...
